The 1883 Liberty Nickel "No Cents" is NOT an error coin. This coin, first minted in 1883, looked just like the $5 Gold coin. Thusly, people would gold plate this nickel and pass it off as a gold coin. To avoid this, the U. S. Mint moved the "E Pluribus Unum" from below the Roman numeral V, and replaced it with the word "cents", also in 1883.
