1776 TWENTY DOLLAR COIN?

by KIM CABANYOG
(COACHELLA CA)

Question: I Have a 1776 TWENTY DOLLAR COIN. Why doesn't it say UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the other side and is it worth anything?

My Answer: The first United States Mint was not established until 1792, so the coin you have is not U.S. Mint issue and almost certainly not gold.

It was probably privately made as a novelty item. I have seen some similar to what you are describing on eBay encased in a pendant. The ones I saw were selling for around twenty-five dollars or so.
