Heavy 40% silver half. Why? NEW
by: Anonymous

Today I found a 40% silver half dollar that weighs 12.1 grams. It's a 1968-D. Any ideas why it's so much heavier than a typical 40% silver half?

1965 Silver Kennedy Half Dollar NEW
by: Randy

I have two 1965 Silver Kennedy Half Dollar coins with two different weights. One weighs 11.54 grams according to specifications. The other weighs 11.34 grams which is below specifications. It weighs the same as the 1971 clad Does anyone know the reason for such a discrepancy? Thanks.

The weight of your half dollar may be off due to the metal on the scale. Try putting something in between the scale and the coin.

If it were the metal on the scale the other half dollar would weigh 11.34 grams also but it weighs 11.54 grams like it should anonymous.

a regular 65 40% Silver weighs 11.4 so it’s just in the threshold tension give or take .3 g still makes it in the area of a regular 40% silver dollar
